Second & Third Class January Update

30th Jan 2026

We’ve had a wonderfully busy and creative start to the year! To begin the term, the children spent time reflecting on their hopes and goals for the year ahead. They each created a piece of “New Year Goals” art, illustrating what they want to learn, improve, or achieve.

Our weekly swimming sessions have also begun, and the children are growing in confidence every time they get into the water. Niall has been taking the children for touch rugby sessions. Through these sessions, the children are developing teamwork, coordination, and a positive attitude toward physical activity.

Last week, we celebrated a very special occasion, Grandparents’ Day. In preparation, the children created beautiful portraits of their grandparents and wrote touching, thoughtful poems to share with them. The effort and care they put into their work truly shone through, and it was heart-warming to see the smiles and pride from both the children and their visiting grandparents.

We have also been learning about the weather as Gaeilge and the children have been having great fun hosting their own Irish weather forecasts. They’ve enjoyed practising new vocabulary, using weather symbols, and presenting their forecasts with confidence and enthusiasm.

We have been diving into information report writing. The children have been researching a wide variety of animals, learning how to collect facts, organise ideas, and present information clearly. To accompany their writing, they created colourful animal portraits using crepe paper. These artworks are full of texture and creativity, showcasing both their research and artistic skills.

It has been an energetic and productive start to the year, and we are excited for all the learning and adventures still to come!
