Second & Third Class February Update
We’ve had a very active and engaging start to the term. After finishing our rugby sessions with Niall, where the children developed excellent teamwork, balance, and ball-handling skills, we have now begun our GAA sessions with Billy Bohan. These lessons, have already sparked great enthusiasm in the class as the children practise fundamental Gaelic games skills, agility drills, and cooperative play.
In English, our focus has been on explanation writing, using the life cycle of a honey bee as our topic. The children have been learning how to structure their writing clearly by sequencing the stages, egg, larva, pupa, and adult and using precise vocabulary to explain how the process works. It has been wonderful to see their confidence grow as they apply these skills to their own written pieces.
In Irish, we have been exploring the theme Éadaí, learning new vocabulary, practising simple conversations, and describing clothing through games, dialogues, and short writing tasks. The children are becoming more comfortable using Irish in a natural and meaningful way.
In Art, we have been creating optical illusion designs, experimenting with lines, shading, and perspective to make shapes appear to pop, bend, or twist on the page. This project encouraged careful attention to detail, and the final pieces are both impressive and eye-catching.
Altogether, it has been a rich and energetic few weeks of learning, movement, creativity, and fun. The children have embraced every activity with great enthusiasm, and we are excited for all that’s ahead this term.
