Second & Third Class May Update
May has been a wonderfully busy and memorable month in our classroom, with lots of exciting learning experiences and special occasions for the children.
In Maths, we have been exploring money and angles. The children have been developing their understanding of recognising and using money in real-life situations, while also learning to identify, measure, and compare different types of angles.
In English, our focus has been on procedural writing. The children learned how to write clear, step-by-step instructions and used these skills to create their own procedural texts on how to make a sandcastle. They worked hard to sequence their ideas correctly and use precise language to help their readers follow the instructions.
In Irish, we have been learning about Siopadóireacht (Shopping). The children have enjoyed learning new vocabulary and practising conversations based on shopping situations through games, role-play, and written activities.
As part of our SESE work, the children completed their Our World Projects on Spain, Italy, and South Africa. They researched each country and presented their findings through colourful and informative posters. We would like to extend a special thank you to Annamaria, Elena, and Vanessa for taking the time to visit our classroom and share information about the countries they are from. The children thoroughly enjoyed hearing about different cultures, traditions, foods, and experiences, and it greatly enriched their learning.
In PE, the children participated in a variety of activities including stations, unihoc, skipping, basketball, and circuit training. These lessons helped to develop their teamwork, coordination, fitness, and fundamental movement skills while ensuring plenty of fun and active participation.
It was also a particularly special month for our 2nd Class pupils, who celebrated their First Holy Communion. We are incredibly proud of all the children for the way they prepared for and participated in this important occasion. The 2nd Class pupils also enjoyed a fantastic school tour to Fort Lucan Adventureland, where they had a wonderful day full of fun, adventure, and lasting memories.
Overall, May has been a month filled with learning, achievement, and celebration, and we are very proud of everything the children have accomplished.
