Senior Infants January Update

9th Feb 2026
In maths we were working on our spatial awareness. We made models of our bedrooms using items from around the classroom and then we worked on drawing maps and giving directions. We are getting very good at using our maths language, giving great directions and using words like over, under, in between, to the left, to the right etc.

In English, we were learning about report writing and we used lots of great adjectives to write a report about dogs.

Kildare Wildlife Rescue were in with us on Wednesday and gave us a wonderful talk on hedgehogs. We learned that hedgehogs have 5,000 - 7,000 spines, that the Irish word for hedgehog is "Gráinneog" which means "ugly little one" and that a group of hedgehogs is called a prickle! We got to take care of some very cute little toy hedgehogs too.

In art we made some beautiful pop-art heart pictures. They look great hanging in our classroom! In music we practiced playing some musical instruments and played them with rhythm. We played the triangles, the shakers and the bells as well as using some body percussion. It sounded great when we were all playing the same rhythm!
